What to expect
*You're in good hands. Each trip will be tailored to fit individual needs to provide the best experience possible.
-
Spring:
-
Early spring can often be quite cold in Northern/Western Maine. "Ice-out" on ponds depends on location. Pond trips are generally booked after mid-May. Early spring April-May can make for some great fishing on rivers. Generally expect to fish with nymphs and streamers.
-
Northern Maine Trout/Salmon waters open April 1st.
-
Weather can vary drastically with any given day.
-
Late spring, black flies and mosquitos begin to show up in full force. Plan accordingly!
-

-
Summer:
-
Summer can often pose issues with rainfall and warm water temperatures. River trips for trout and salmon are usually possible into early-mid July, however, trips may need to be adjusted based on current conditions. July-August is a great time to target some spring-fed ponds, bass, or pike.
-
Best dry fly fishing is generally in the month of June with some larger hatches on ponds occurring in July.
-

-
Fall:
-
September trout/salmon fishing is also very weather and flow dependent. Years of good rainfall can produce phenomenal fishing.
-
Northern Maine's season ends September 30th, however, there are some great trout and salmon fishing opportunities extended through October.
-

**Note:
Hike-in and remote destinations often are not recommended half-day trips to maximize time on the water. For example, the Rapid River is a long drive and relatively long hike in. You will want to be sure you are capable of hiking and intermediate to difficult wading, as well as long days on the water if you are interested in a Rapid River Trip.

** Remote pond float tube trips:
These trips also entail some hiking, as well as propelling your tube using flippers. This can pose a challenge to some. Be sure you are up for the task. Full day trips are also recommended.

Your guide will provide you with the knowledge you need. All trips will be tailored to fit your needs!
If you are a first time angler, we will work on learning all the basics you need to cast, read water, and catch fish!
If you are an intermediate to experienced angler, we can work on learning new techniques, new places, targeting larger fish, etc.

*** Regardless of your experience you or expectations, we have great instruction and the knowledge to make for a memorable trip! Please call to discuss options and details!

Lodging:
Heritage Waters Guide Service cannot provide lodging. There are many options in each region that include: free primitive camp sites (first come, first serve), campgrounds, hotels, traditional lodges/cabin rentals, and Airbnb rentals. We can provide a list of options when booking your trip. Additional day/night fees apply when recreating and camping in the "North Maine Woods" beyond checkpoints.
